To address the climate problem and other related issues, industries must raise public knowledge about sustainability.

This issue may be attributed to the fact that the “environment” is not taught in the educational system in many of these nations. As a result, when decision-makers occupy such positions, they lack awareness of the problems, and others are ignorant of the possible environmental effects of their decisions.

Numerous clusters of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) can be found throughout the nation’s states. These businesses export their goods to foreign customers as well as provide their goods to prominent local industries.

Individual SMEs have very limited environmental and social consequences, but as a collective, the impacts are substantially higher.

In addition, the need for cash and human capital/intellect for SMEs has made it extremely difficult to handle the ESG aspects. The supply and demand have been chaotically monitored at the same time.

Statistically speaking, there is a dearth of reliable data and information about the sustainability performance and possibilities of SMEs. The majority of SMEs are usually managed by business owners who use a lean workforce of technically and managerially skilled individuals to develop and implement best practices that lower operating and resource costs while enhancing competitive advantage. As a result, SMEs significantly lack awareness regarding reporting and actions related to sustainability.

In order to accomplish the SDGs, it is imperative that SMEs have their capacity built through education and training on global “sustainability actions and reporting.”

Awareness creation and adoption of sustainability actions and reporting will help SME sector:

  • To transform themselves towards sustainable practices through materiality analysis and long-term action plan
  • To capture its impact and develop sustainability targets
  • To adopt sustainability efforts and actions
  • To develop sustainability report and future plans
  • To monitor sustainability indicators
  • To contribute to achieve targets of SDGs

In order to determine their current state in relation to the three components of sustainability, the first step that is planned is to administer a scenario assessment self-evaluation questionnaire.

General information on the three components of sustainability, such as the number of operating units and turnover, resource (such as energy, water, and waste) usage patterns, production processes, equipment, local service providers, etc., will be gathered with the aid of the self-assessment questionnaire/survey.
The results of the self-assessment questionnaire/survey would be used to determine the next steps for sustainability and how to report according to GRI guidelines.
This kind of information could help other SMEs become more sustainable on a daily basis and encourage them to produce sustainability reports in accordance with GRI guidelines in order to get greater clarity and be able to contribute to the UN’s SDGs.

The main objective is

  • To increase the sustainability activities in SMEs
  • To encourage SMEs for voluntary disclosures through GRIs standards
  • To seek their contribution and enable them to achieve SDGs.

The specific objective of the project is to identify SMEs suitable for the adoption of sustainability actions and develop their first sustainability report as per GRI standards.

  • To conduct materiality analysis, risks management strategy, and identify areas of improvements
  • To use world proven methodology for sustainability audit
  • To develop sustainability indicators, ESG factors and targets in their respective areas
  • To develop roadmaps/actions to achieve sustainability targets
  • To develop monitoring tool for sustainability indicators and ESG factors
  • To prepare first sustainability excellence report format as per GRI standards for putting all together for the Board Members, Investors, Customers and other relevant stakeholders
  • To advice SMEs for submitting their first sustainability excellence report to GRI content check service
  • To advice SMEs for submitting sustainability excellence report to various awards at national and global level.
